My thirteen year old son and I worked on the spinning wheel yesterday and ALMOST got it going. My mom gave me some wool and a DVD for my birthday, so we watched that and learned quite a bit. I think it is missing a part though, so I'll have to find someone to take it to, hopefully we'll get it up and running, not that I need another hobby or anything :-)

While we were on our trip, we picked up a spinning wheel that my husband's 87 year old grandma has been wanting to get to us. It was her grandma's, and she said it came from Germany. She was guessing it might be 200 years old! Getting it home was a bit of an adventure, but we did it. I'd sure like to learn how to use it, in my spare time... When I first started making quilted cards several years ago, I also made buttons out of polymer clay to put on them. But I started having problems with the clay being inconsistent, and sometimes the legs would break off of the moose. But at a recent class, a student who had done a lot of polymer clay projects said to try Sculpey Premo. I finally got around to it, with the help of my son, and I couldn't break a leg off if I tried, it's flexible, so they bend instead of breaking. I'm happy to be able to make these again! Click here for a tutorial on how to make them Here is my pile of fabrics from quilt stores all over Minnesota. I'm especially excited about the Cherrywood Fabrics, the solid ones on the bottom. I've seem them in magazines for years, and they now have a corner of the Colorz quilt shop in Baxter, MN, so I got to drool over them in person. :-) I realized I pretty much never buy solids because I think they're too boring, but it's difficult to put too many prints together, so now I will be forced to use some solids, I think it will be good for me :-) And these are definitely not boring, they're such nice colors. I have lots of orders to fill and bazaar season starting too soon, so hopefully all of this new fabric will inspire me to get to work! The trip is almost done, I have lots of fun new fabric! When I get home I have some work to catch up on!
