I've been kind of quiet on here again lately, but not because nothing is happening! Still busy with cards and kits, and there are a couple of fun new things in the works! Here is a scrapbook cover I made recently for a wedding gift, those are always fun. You can use my quilted book cover tutorial to do this, it's just on a bigger scale. The teal fabric is from the bridesmaid dresses, which I did some alterations on.

I recently got an app on my iPad (mini) for sketching/drawing. After playing with it for a bit, I discovered it was a great way to practice free motion quilting designs! I am always telling my students that a pencil and paper is a good way to practice designs and filling a space, with no risk or cost. This app, which is a free app called Brushes3, does the same thing. A stylus is nice, I prefer the foam tipped type which I got for $3 at my quilt shop (for touch screen sewing machines), but you can use your finger just as well. Just choose a plainer brush, and use the bar at the bottom to make it the thickness you'd like, the default was really thick, I think. Then remember not to pick up your finger/stylus to move to a new spot. This app has lots of other fun uses also, but I thought I would put this tip on here! Otherwise, we're still busy cranking out cards, kits and patterns, hopefully we can come up for air sometime! I'm having a little trouble keeping up on my blog, doing a little TOO much sewing! I just finished altering three bridesmaid dresses for a wedding Saturday. We also finally got all of our kit orders out, and we're already getting re-orders. I have a few people helping me now, but one of them (my oldest daughter) just went to camp for the summer. For a homeschooling family who has always done pretty much everything together, this is a bit of an adjustment for Mom..... :-) (and Dad and siblings too!) We also took an order down to Denali Park this weekend, one of the definite perks of this business! We found some very cooperative caribou, including one with a radio collar, who let me take lots of pictures. And I took part of my payment in fun new fabric, perk #2! We had a nice family day together before our daughter left. Now we need to get back to stuffing kits and making cards... |
