Spoon Works (Swedish)
My hand carved kitchen utensils (and other household tools) most of which are carved from Alaska birch harvested for firewood on our property in Fairbanks, Alaska. After the initial chainsaw work, the rest of the process involves a variety of hand tools including splitting maul, hatchet, hand saw, and wood carving knives. Each piece is sanded smooth, down to 600 grit, and finished with a food safe Danish (mineral) oil. Wood color and grain can vary greatly, and I try to retain the natural beauty of the wood, so each piece is unique. Keeping more of the wood makes these tools sturdier, and they are definitely meant to be used.
I started carving (mostly spoons) several years ago after taking a spoon carving class at the local folk school. Along the way my carving expanded into additional kitchen utensils - spreaders, coffee scoops, spatulas, and wooden cups (kuksa). The name for my hobby/craft is "Sked Verks" - meaning spoon works, in Swedish to acknowledge the Scandinavian influence involved with spoon carving, and my heritage.

Small Spreaders
Great for butter, jam, cream cheese, and dips. Use every day or for parties and special occasions. Most are about 6-7" in length. Most are carved from Alaska birch, sometimes have cherry, willow, or alder.
Small Scoops
Small scoops (approx. two tablespoons) are excellent for coffee, sugar, and other dry goods in the kitchen. I usually have birch, red cedar, and sometimes poplar, cherry, or black walnut.
