This is a book bag my son requested me to make:-) It's a bit of a departure from my usual projects:-) The center panel is made by printing on organza on my printer, then layering it with white fabric and batting and stitching the black outlines. Then we found Marvel comics fabric (at JoAnn's) to make the rest of the bag.

I don't know too much about this yet, but it looks like fun. It's on the Quilting Gallery website. Click on the picture for more info!
Here is another way to display three or four coordinating quilted greeting cards. These hand dyed fabrics are all from Starr Design Fabrics, I love their fabric! I updated my free motion quilting tutorial to include some tips for thread sketching/thread painting. It's a lot like drawing with the sewing machine, very addicting! The background of this swan quilt is all one batik fabric, the rest is thread. "For the Birds" card pattern going on Craftsy....I'm putting them all on my blog first so I can put a link to my site in with the patterns... Tundra Swan card going on Craftsy today. It's a great way to practice some thread painting on a really small project! Still available here too, of course. My next class at the Material Girls quilt shop will be on quilt design using a photo for inspiration. We'll talk about several different methods, from a simple silhouette (see picture) to more complicated designs. Students will choose their own project after the first session when we cover the basics. The class is on three Wednesday evenings beginning on Feb. 13. |
