The Quilting Gallery blog hosts a weekly themed quilt contest, so this week I entered one of my crane quilts. (The theme this week is wall hangings) Feel free to vote for me if you want! :-)
There's still time to order a quilted card for your favorite mom. I'm hoping to have two new ones up in the next couple of days, I've been sidetracked by skiing and a few other things! I just finished a fun birthday card, but I can't put that on here until after the person receives it:-) I will say that it put me in thread sketching mode, and then this link appeared in my mailbox this morning...a free downloadable e-book from Quilting Arts magazine on thread sketching/painting. It has lots of great information, I'd highly recommend it. I think you have to join the Quilting Arts online community, which I would also recommend, it's a great resource. (and also free) To get the e-book, click here.
Congratulations to Audrey for winning a free card! Thanks to everyone who participated!
My family recently got to visit a woman who has three owls who have been injured and can't return to the wild. She has a great gray, a great horned who is missing a wing, and a boreal who weighs about 4 ounces and is only around 6-7 inches tall. We got to go right in their cages with them and get some close up pictures, which is something I'm always looking for for my quilting. Hopefully that means I will get something made with owls soon...
Last week it was warm, and my ski trail got so melty and icy, I thought the season was over. But now we're getting buckets of snow, so it's been extended! I declared a snow day for the kids:-) For some reason, not everyone shares my enthusiasm for snow in April, so I'm putting up a springy forget-me-not card, Alaska's state flower. My camera software is acting up, so I had to resort to scanning it, so the picture isn't great...The flowers are made with the organza silk screening process, see my tutorial for more info. I should have some of these on the "cards for sale" page soon, but if you want one before I get them there, send me a message on the contact page...
Also, there are a few more days to enter the drawing for a free card...scroll down to the post from April 5 for details!
Today is day 4 of my week long chance to win a finished card...help spread the word about my new cards for sale! Go to my post from April 5 for details.
Here is a card with a birch leaf on it...I've been working my way through pictures of new cards that I made on my retreat, this might be the last one. Time to get back to work!
I'm excited to have my finished cards online finally! For the first week, I decided to host a contest. If you share this post on Facebook and let me know that you did via my contact page, blog comment, or my On The Trail facebook page (or e-mail or Facebook if you know me:-)) I will enter you into a drawing for a free card. I will do the drawing on Friday morning, April 12. You will have a choice of any design currently available on the website. Thanks for the help!
If you are new here, I have finished quilted cards for sale, and also patterns if you would like to make your own. I also recently created a tutorial page, I'm hoping to add more to that eventually!
I survived the chiffon dress, now back to cardmaking! The backgrounds for these ravens were all made by piecing random scraps together, some already quilted and some not. I sometimes keep a pile of scraps by my machine to sew in between other things. If I can "chain piece" it saves lots of thread (and bobbin winding!) and I end up with some "free" backgrounds for cards.
I am a homeschooling mom of three fun kids, who are now old enough that I have a little time to pursue my passion for sewing! After several years of making quilted cards and art quilts, I'm now designing kits and patterns. Some of them have even been in Keepsake Quilting! I teach classes at local quilt shops, and would love to do more traveling and teaching eventually. I also have many tutorials, including some on you tube. I am blessed to live in Alaska where I am surrounded by the inspiration provided by the beauty of God's creation!
